Ophthalmology

Veterinary ophthalmology, as in humans, deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and disorders associated with the sight and eyes of animals. It is a field that has undergone considerable development in recent times. In order for a veterinarian to be able to examine your pet's eyesight properly, he or she needs the appropriate technical equipment in addition to expertise.

We provide a complete ophthalmology service at Medicanima Clinic, from clinical examination to surgery and aftercare. If the situation requires it, we take samples from patients for laboratory testing, which usually takes place directly at our clinic. We are thus able to determine the cause within tens of minutes and then determine the next steps in treatment.

Our specialists deal with a wide range of visual diseases or disorders. Some of the most common ones include eye ulcers, foreign bodies in the eyes, allergic reactions, inflammation of the eyes or eyelids.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of eye diseases is a key part of veterinary ophthalmology, as a correct diagnosis allows us to choose the most appropriate treatment plan. During the examination we work with common instruments such as the ophthalmoscope, but also with specialized instruments such as the biomicroscope or slit lamp.

Treatment

After diagnosis, we will suggest treatment, which may include medication, surgery, or another procedure to preserve our patients' vision and healthy eyes. We always try to find a solution that works best for your pet and you.

Eyes surgery

We have highly qualified veterinary ophthalmologists at Medicanima Clinic who have many years of experience in performing a variety of ophthalmic surgical procedures, including eyelid correction, tumor removal, treatment of traumatic injuries and many more.

Prevention and check-ups

We believe that prevention is the beginning of everything at our clinic. That's why we are here to provide you with expert advice or regular eye checks, especially for at-risk groups or breeds prone to eye disease.

Examination of hereditary defects

Veterinary ophthalmology is not just about treating patients with pre-existing eye problems. It also includes a thorough examination and care of healthy individuals that may be destined for breeding or active reproduction. Our ophthalmology services are not limited to the management of eye problems, but also include preventative healthcare and diagnostics that are crucial to ensuring the health and quality of life of your pets.

We want to make your pet's examination as comfortable as possible. That's why we've taken an approach where you're in the same room with him or her for the entire examination. This approach not only helps minimize stress for the animal, but also allows us to better understand their needs and reactions.
