Cardiology

Cardiology is a specialized discipline of veterinary medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in pets. As with humans, our pets' hearts can be affected by a variety of diseases that can affect their quality of life and health. Some of the most common heart problems include heart failure, heart valve defects, high blood pressure or arrhythmias.

We offer comprehensive cardiac care at our veterinary clinic, which includes both early detection of problems and follow-up treatment. Our team of experts work with the most modern diagnostic equipment, which allows us to quickly and accurately examine the heart, make a diagnosis, and create an individualized treatment plan. Treatment of heart disease at our clinic is either conservative or surgical, depending on the diagnosis and condition of the patient.

Clinical examination

The basis of the examination is the assessment of the clinical condition, mucous membrane staining, listening assessment of cardiac sounds, respiratory murmurs or peripheral pulse quality. The patient's history is an important and indispensable part of the examination. After a successful clinical examination, a more detailed cardiological examination is suggested by the physician.

Blood pressure measurement

As with humans, animals can experience high blood pressure (hypertension) that is not only related to primary heart disease. At our clinic we measure the pressure with a device based on the principle of doppler or oscillometry. The measurement consists in placing a pressure cuff on the paw or tail.

Electrocardiography (ECG)

The principle of ECG is to record the electrical activity of the heart in the form of an electrocardiogram (time recording). The examination is non-invasive and consists of placing clips on the skin.

Radiological examination

On the basis of a static image, the essence of which is the passage of X-rays through the tissues, we can assess the size and shape of the cardiac silhouette, the filling of pulmonary veins and large vessels, the pulmonary pattern or the presence of fluid in the chest cavity.

Sonographic examination - echocardiography

One of the most important examinations at the present time. On the basis of sonographic examination of the heart, we assess the basic anatomy of the heart and surrounding structures, the mechanical function of the heart, and when supplementing basic sonography with Doppler examination, we are able to assess the direction and nature of flow in the structures under examination. If necessary, we are able to supplement the examination with contrast studies.

Our own laboratory

An essential part is also the possibility of laboratory testing of blood or cytological assessment of the sample at our workplace. Thanks to the cooperation with external laboratories at our country and abroad, we are able, for example, to determine the level of cardiomarkers, which assess the degree of damage to the heart muscle, or to evaluate a wide range of genetic tests.

Our clinic's approach is based on a sensitive and caring approach to our patients and their owners. We are happy to explain the examination process, diagnosis and treatment options so that you know what steps we are taking for your pet's health.
